Vegetarian, Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free


  1. Half cup mung dal
  2. Two spoons butter
  3. 1/4th teaspoon each: Cumin seeds, turmeric powder, hing orasafoetide
  4. 2 table spoons cilantro, washed and cut
  5. One green chilli washed and cut in two (optional)


Soak the dal for one hour. Add two cups of water and cook it till very soft. You may have to add more water as needed. It should be like soup conststancy.

Add butter in sauce pan. Melt the butter and heat it for one minute, then add cumin seeds. Let them turn brown then add turmeric powder and hing powder.
Add chilli if you want.
Add cilantro.
Salt to taste may be half spoon
Cook for few minutes on low heat.


This dal is good source of protein. This tastes good with plain rice.
You can add any veggies while cooking dal.
If you like, saute one small chopped onion in butter.
