Week of April 1 - April 7, 2019

“During your sojourn here upon earth, remember that you are only a movie actor.  You may be called upon to play any kind of part, tragic or comic, and you must play well; as you watch yourself in tragic roles, say: "That is a fine, sad picture and I played it well."

Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, April 7, for our weekly Service Reading entitled "What is Your Role in Life ."  Sunday School for children ages 3-12 is also held from 11 am to 12 noon.  Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building.  The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40am. The Chapel is open to the public for services and special activities.

Weekly Affirmation:

Every star of heaven, every pure thought, every good act is a window through which to behold Thee.

(Metaphysical Meditations)

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held on Saturday, April 6. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. All are welcome to attend and there is no need to RSVP.

• Our next Harmonium Workshop will be held on Sunday, April 14 in the chapel. This workshop is open to all members and friends who are interested in either joining the Kirtan Group or would simply like to learn how to play the SRF cosmic chants on the harmonium. If you own a personal harmonium, we request that you please bring it with you to the workshop. If you have any questions about the workshop, or do not have a harmonium of your own, you may contact Arjun at arjunraghuraman@gmail.com.

• All are invited to an Easter potluck social lunch after the Sunday service on April 21.  There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer for those who would like to contribute a dish.  Please contact Danny for information at danielwilson@gmail.com.

• We invite children and teens between the ages of 7 to 18 to the SRF Summer Day Program in Encinitas.  This program ushers in an era of training for youth in our Guru's How-to-Live spiritual principles.  With guidance from SRF monastics, teens, and children will have an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God, learn SRF techniques of meditation, engage in fun activities and create friendships with spiritual-minded peers. The program also features a "Parents Day" at the Encinitas Temple that will include a class and satanga given by the monastics on spiritual training.  The girls week will be June 24-28 and the boys' week July 1-5.  Please see the flyer describing the program, located in the Sunday School hallway bulletin board, as well as the multi-purpose room, or visit the SRF website under Youth Services - Summer Day Program.

• Guruji said that “Group Meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran mediators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.”  Our Center hosts group meditations every Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 PM and from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Meditations last about 45 minutes, along with a reading and chants. Devotees may enter or leave the service quietly at any time. We hope that you are able to attend.

• All activities and events organized by the Houston Center are carried out by
dedicated members and friends and we always welcome new volunteers. If you have a few hours to spare each month and would like to volunteer, please let us know by emailing us at

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
