Week of August 28  - September 03, 2017

“There is nothing in the world that we cannot exactly produce and experience in the dreamland, but when we wake up, all those dream experiences that seemed so real are found to be unreal. Then how can we be so sure that what we are experiencing now in our conscious life is real? When we are dreaming, our earthly life seems unreal, and when we are awake our dreams seem unreal. We are drifting from dream to dream.”

Announcements:

• Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey and the tragic flooding that ensued.  If you have been directly impacted by the storm and have been displaced due to flooding please contact us at srfhouston@gmail.com.  We are working with local devotees to provide shelter and accomodations for those in need.

• We have received countless messages from Mother Center and monastics expressing their support and prayers for their spiritual family in Houston and the surrounding areas.  They would like us to know that they are with us and send their deep loving vibrations that we may heal and recover quickly from this tragedy.

• We have decided to cancel the Thursday meditation for today.   Road conditions are still not fully safe in many places and with the curfew that the City of Houston has imposed we feel it best to wait until next Thursday to resume our regular schedule.  Please note next week is the first Thursday of the month and the meditation will be from 7pm to 10pm.

• This Sunday, September 03there will be a meeting of the Teen Group from 11 am- Noon in the Morgan Building. Teens aged 13-18 are welcome to attend.

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held this Saturday, September 02 starting at 8:30 am. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. If you are planning to attend, please let Diane know by emailing her at Di.Montano@att.net as this will help us to organize head count for lunch on the Day of Service. You can also RSVP by filling out the sign-up sheet located in the chapel foyer.

• Our next Harmonium Workshop will be held next Sunday, September 10 in the chapel. This workshop is open to all members and friends who are interested in either joining the Kirtan Group or would simply like to learn how to play the SRF cosmic chants on the harmonium. If you own a personal harmonium, we request that you please bring it with you to the workshop. If you have any questions about the workshop, or do not have a harmonium of your own, you may contact Arjun (arjunraghuraman@gmail.com) or Jahnavi.

• Our Fall 2017 silent retreat at Villa de Matel will be held from Friday, October 6 through Sunday, October 8. Those who wish can arrive a day earlier, on Thursday, October 5 in the afternoon. An information sheet and registration forms are available in the foyer. As accommodations are limited, we ask that you register only if you are sure that you will attend on the indicated dates. The deadline for registration is Sunday, September 24. For more information, please contact Jose Guzman or Michaele O’Dwyer.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
