Week of August 22 - August 28 , 2016

“Do not excuse yourself from trying to know God by saying that you are too busy to think of Him.  You must give up some of your useless pursuits and idle thoughts to make time for God.”

                                                                                  (Metaphysical Meditations)

• The Janmashtami Commemoration service celebrating the birthday of Bhagavan Krishna will be held in our Chapel today August, Thursday 25 beginning at 8 pm. There will be a meditation from 7:00 pm - 7:50 pm.  All devotees who are acquainted with the SRF teachings and the Guru-disciple relationship, are welcome to attend. Devotees are asked to bring a flower or flowers as a symbol of devotion to God and the SRF Gurus, and a donation, if possible, as sign of loyalty to the path of SRF. These donations are sent to the Mother Center to share these sacred teachings with other truth-seeking souls.

• For those planning on attending the Janmashtami commemorative service please be aware that the Hare Krishna Temple across the street will also be celebrating on the same day.    This means that parking will be very limited to our small parking lot and some possible street parking on Golf Street.  Please make arrangements to take extra time when arriving at the chapel.

• Our monthly meditation retreat is scheduled for Saturday, August 27 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This month we will have a non-guided meditation.  All are welcome to attend at any time during the day, but we ask that you enter or exit the chapel only during chants or readings. The SRF Energization Exercises will be conducted as a group at 9:00 am.

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held on Saturday, September 03.   We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. We encourage everyone to join us and share this special day of Service and Fellowship with other devotees. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be provided for all those who attend, so please email Sudha (vasudhaven@yahoo.com) to help us get an accurate headcount.

• Our next Harmonium Workshop will be held on Sunday, September 04 in the chapel. This workshop is open to all members and friends who are interested in either joining the Kirtan Group or would simply like to learn how to play the SRF cosmic chants on the harmonium. If you own a personal harmonium, we request that you please bring it with you to the workshop. If you have any questions about the workshop, or do not have a harmonium of your own, you may contact Arjun by emailing him at arjunraghuraman@gmail.com.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
