Week of May 02 - May 08, 2016

“A mother is expected to look after her son, and a son is told to honor his mother but I say that a son should not only love his mother but should look on all women as expressions of the Divine Father.’’

                                                      - Paramahansa Yogananda

Weekly Affirmation:

“Divine Mother, everywhere I hear Thy voice, resounding in thunder or singing softly in the flux of atoms.  I hear Thee in the symphony of spinning stars.  I hear Thee, too, in the tinkling bells of little, laughing, harmonious lives.  Thou art nearer to me than the throbs of my heart; and I perceive Thee on the farthest horizon of consciousness.  Thine entrancing footsteps ever echo in my soul.’’

Announcements:

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held this Saturday, May 07. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. We encourage everyone to join us and share this special day of Service with other devotees. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be provided for all those who attend, so please email Sudha (vasudhaven@yahoo.com) to help us get an accurate headcount.

• Our next Kirtan Workshop will be held this Sunday, May 08 in the chapel and will begin at 12:30pm. This workshop is open to all members and friends who are interested in either joining the Kirtan Group or would simply like to learn how to play the SRF cosmic chants on the harmonium. If you own a personal harmonium, we request that you please bring it with you to the workshop. If you have any questions about the workshop, or do not have a harmonium of your own, you may contact Arjun by emailing him at arjunraghuraman@gmail.com.

• Our next commemorative service is the birthday of Swami Sri Yukteswar, which will be held on Tuesday May 10 from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The service will be preceded by a meditation beginning at 7:00 pm. All devotees who are acquainted with the Guru-disciple relationship are welcome to attend. Devotees are asked to bring a flower or flowers as a symbol of devotion to God and the SRF Gurus, and a donation, if possible.  These donations are sent to the Mother Center to share these sacred teachings with other truth-seeking souls. Please write your checks to the order of Self-Realization Fellowship. An information sheet on commemorative services is available in our chapel foyer and can also be viewed by clicking on this link.

• Our next meeting of the Bhagavad Gita Study Group will be held in the chapel next Sunday, May 15 at 12:30pm. This group is open to all members and friends who wish to read and meditate upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spiritual interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita – God Talks with Arjuna. We hope that you are able to attend.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
