Week of February 1 - February 7, 2016

“To remove the veil of maya is to uncover the secret of creation.  He who thus denudes the universe is the only true monotheist.  All others are worshiping heathen images.  So long as man remains subject to the dualistic delusions of Nature, the Janus-faced Maya is his goddess; he cannot know the one true God.''

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, February 7th for our weekly Service Reading entitled “Satan - The Cosmic Magician”. The service is from 11 am to 12 noon. Sunday School for children ages 3-12 is also held from 11 am to 12 noon. Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building. The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40 am. The Center is open to the public for services and special activities.

Weekly Affirmation:

“I have long been suffering from the jaundiced vision of earthliness.  Instead of perceiving Thee, O ever Living Spirit, my disordered view sees only the pale corpse of matter.  Wilt Thou not heal me, that with perfect wisdom sight I behold in all things Thy transfiguring presence?”

(Whispers from Eternity)

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held this Saturday, February 6.
We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. We encourage everyone to join us and share this special day of Service and Fellowship with other devotees. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be provided for all those who attend, so please email Sudha (vasudhaven@yahoo.com) to help us get an accurate headcount. You can also RSVP by filling out the sign-up sheet located in the chapel foyer.

• Our Houston Center will now be holding a Kirtan workshop every 2nd Sunday of the month after services.  The first one will be held on Sunday, February 7. This workshop is open to all members and friends, who are interested in either joining our Kirtan Group or would simply like to learn how to play the SRF cosmic chants on the harmonium. If you own a personal harmonium, we request that you please bring it with you to the workshop. If you have any questions about the workshop, or do not have a harmonium of your own, you may contact Arjun by emailing him at arjunraghuraman@gmail.com.

• All those who wish to make a donation towards the Houston Center building fund are requested to send them to Houston Center via check or online at our website srfhouston.org. Checks should be made out to "SRF'' and please include ''Building Fund'' in the memo line.  Any donations sent directly to Mother Center in Los Angeles are not automatically credited to the Houston Center building fund even if it is specified on the payment.  We thank you for your understanding and support.

• On Sunday, February 14, we will have our Annual election of Service Readers and Sunday School Teachers and Aides immediately after service in the chapel. All active members are encouraged to attend.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
