Week of January 11 - January 17, 2016

“If you learn to experiment with your mind, you will realize that the entire design of the body and all its processes are controlled by thought. In order to pass life’s tests, you need rejuvenation in both body and mind. You need to develop elasticity of mind. If you can’t meet life’s tests, you will be helpless when trials and tribulations come.”

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

Announcements:

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held this Saturday, January 16. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. We encourage everyone to join us and share this special day of Service and Fellowship with other devotees. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be provided for all those who attend.

• Our next meeting of the Bhagavad Gita Study Group will be held in the chapel this Sunday, January 17 at 12:30pm. This group is open to all members and friends who wish to read and meditate upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spiritual interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita – God Talks with Arjuna. We hope that you are able to attend.

• Our Center hosts a lesson study group every Monday evening from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the chapel. Devotees take turns reading a paragraph from a given SRF lesson, followed by a short meditation to assimilate that portion of the teaching. There is a group meditation from 8:00 pm to 9:00pm. The lesson study group is open to all SRF lesson students, and we hope that you are able to attend.

• Our annual budget meeting will be held in the Sunday School building on Sunday, January 31 immediately after the services. Please join us in spiritual fellowship as we discuss plans for expenditures in 2016.

• Guruji said that “Group Meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.”  Our Center hosts group meditations every Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 PM and from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Meditations last about 45 minutes, along with a reading and chants. Devotees may enter or leave the service quietly at any time. These meditations are an excellent way to strengthen one's New Year's resolutions.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
