Week of January 4 - January 10, 2016

“The right methods for developing concentration are unknown to most persons. The mental faculties are there but they are not developed. Failure to develop one’s mental capacities eventually leads to serious trouble. The mind, like the physical body, requires right exercise for health.”

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, January 10 for our weekly Service Reading entitled “The Art of Developing Memory”. The service is from 11 am to 12 noon. Sunday School for children ages 3-12 is also held from 11 am to 12 noon. Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building. The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40 am. The Center is open to the public for services and special activities.

Weekly Affirmation:

“O Spirit, teach me to heal the body by recharging it with Thy cosmic energy, to heal the mind by concentration and cheerfulness, and the soul by meditation-born intuition.”

• Our Center hosts a lesson study group every Monday evening from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the chapel. Devotees take turns reading a paragraph from a given SRF lesson, followed by a short meditation to assimilate that portion of the teaching. There is a group meditation from 8:00 pm to 9:00pm. The lesson study group is open to all SRF lesson students, and we hope that you are able to attend.

• The traditional all-day meditation commemorating the birthday of Paramahansa Yogananda will be held in the chapel this Saturday, January 09 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a 30 minute break at 1:00 pm. A fruit offering is required but please note that monetary donations are not requested for this service.

• Our annual budget meeting will be held in the Sunday School building on Sunday, January 31 immediately after the services. Please join us in spiritual fellowship as we discuss plans for expenditures in 2016.

• Guruji said that “Group Meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.”  Our Center hosts group meditations every Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 PM and from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Meditations last about 45 minutes, along with a reading and chants. Devotees may enter or leave the service quietly at any time. These meditations are an excellent way to strengthen one's New Year's resolutions.

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held on Saturday, January 16. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. We encourage everyone to join us and share this special day of Service and Fellowship with other devotees. A delicious vegetarian lunch will be provided for all those who attend, so please sign-up in the foyer to help us get an accurate headcount.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
