Week of August 31 - September 06, 2015

“The best way to banish the consciousness of your weaknesses is not to think about them; otherwise you will be overwhelmed. Bring the light in, and darkness never was. In that thought is one of the greatest inspirations of my life. If light is admitted into a cave where darkness has existed for thousands of years, the darkness will vanish instantly. So will our faults and weaknesses vanish when we bring in the light of God.”

Announcements:

• The Janmashtami Commemoration service celebrating the birthday of Bhagavan Krishna will be held in our Chapel this Saturday, September 05 beginning at 8 pm. There will be a meditation from 7:00 pm - 7:50 pm.  All devotees who are acquainted with the SRF teachings and the Guru-disciple relationship, are welcome to attend. Devotees are asked to bring a flower or flowers as a symbol of devotion to God and the SRF Gurus, and a donation, if possible, as sign of loyalty to the path of SRF. These donations are sent to the Mother Center to share these sacred teachings with other truth-seeking souls.

• We have been informed that the Hare Krishna Temple is also celebrating Janmashtami on the same day as us, and therefore we anticipate devotees of the Hare Krishna temple using our parking lot during the service. We request all our members and guests that plan on attending the service to please be park in the event parking lot on W 34th street.

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held next Saturday, September 12. Due to the rising temperatures and the summer heat, we will plan on starting earlier around 7:30 am and ending the outside work sooner. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. If you are planning to attend, please let Sudha know by emailing him at vasudhaven@yahoo.com. This will help us to organize head count for the Day of Service.

• A special screening of the movie AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda will be held on Saturday, October 3 at the India House at 8888 W Bellfort Ave in Houston from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Please refer to the flier posted in the Sunday School building for more information about the event. If you are interested in volunteering at the event, a meeting will be held on Sunday, September 20 after service in the Sunday School building.

• Our Houston Center will have a booth at the Grand Annual Janmashtami Celebration, to be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Saturday, September 12 from 6:00 pm to midnight. If you are interested in volunteering at the booth for a few hours, please email us at srfhouston@gmail.com
