Week of August 24 - August 30, 2015

“A lazy person never finds God. Truly, an idle mind becomes the workshop of the devil. I have seen sannyasis who renounced work and became nothing more than beggars. But persons, who work for a living without any wish for the fruits of action, desiring the Lord alone, are true renunciants. It is extremely difficult to practice such renunciation, but when you so love God that everything you do is motivated by the desire to please Him, you are free.”

Weekly Affirmation:

“I can perform all duties only after borrowing the powers of action from God, so my first design is to please Him. The first love of my heart, the first ambition of my soul, the first goal of my will and reason is God alone.”

Announcements:

• Our monthly meditation retreat is scheduled for this Saturday, August 29 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This month we will have a guided meditation in the morning, which will include group practice of the SRF techniques of meditation. All are welcome to attend at any time during the day, but we ask that you enter or exit the chapel only during chants or readings. The SRF Energization Exercises will be conducted as a group at 9:00 am.

• The Janmashtami Commemoration service celebrating the birthday of Bhagavan Krishna will be held in our Chapel next Saturday, September 05 beginning at 8 pm. There will be a meditation from 7:00 pm - 7:50 pm.  All devotees who are acquainted with the SRF teachings and the Guru-disciple relationship, are welcome to attend. Devotees are asked to bring a flower or flowers as a symbol of devotion to God and the SRF Gurus, and a donation, if possible, as sign of loyalty to the path of SRF. These donations are sent to the Mother Center to share these sacred teachings with other truth-seeking souls.

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held on Saturday, September 12. Due to the rising temperatures and the summer heat, we will plan on starting earlier around 7:30 am and ending the outside work sooner. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. If you are planning to attend, please let Sudha know by emailing him at vasudhaven@yahoo.com. This will help us to organize head count for the Day of Service.

• Guruji said that “Group Meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.”  Our Center hosts group meditations every Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 PM and from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Meditations last about 45 minutes, along with a reading and chants. Devotees may enter or leave the service quietly at any time. We hope that you are able to attend.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
