Week of February 02 - February 08, 2015

“The path advocated in the Bhagavad Gita is the moderate, medium, golden path both for the busy businessman and for the highest spiritual aspirant. A lazy person never finds God. An idle mind becomes the workshop of the devil. I have seen many sannyasis who renounced work and became nothing more than beggars. But persons who work for a living without any wish for the fruits of actions, desiring the Lord alone, are true renunciants.”

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, February 08 for our weekly Service Reading entitled “How Active Westerners Can Realize God”. Sunday School for children ages 3-12 is also held from 11 am to 12 noon. The service is from 11 am to 12 noon. Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building. The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40 am. The Center is open to the public for services and special activities.

Weekly Affirmation:

"O glorious Omnipresence, let not the fire of memory for Thee be blown out by the gusts of oblivion arising from the whirlwinds of my worldliness.”

(Metaphysical Meditations)

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held this Saturday, February 07. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. If you are planning to attend, we request that you please inform Sudha by emailing him at vasudhaven@yahoo.com as this will help us to organize head count for the lunch on the Day of Service.

• This Sunday, February 08, we will have our Annual election of Service Readers and Sunday School Teachers and Aides after service. All active members are encouraged to attend.

• Our next meeting of the Bhagavad Gita Study Group will be held in the chapel next Sunday, February 15 at 12:30pm. This group is open to all members and friends who wish to read and meditate upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spiritual interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita – God Talks with Arjuna.

• All activities and events organized by the Houston Center are carried out by dedicated members and friends and we always welcome new volunteers. If you have a few hours to spare each month and would like to volunteer, please let us know by contacting a member of the Managing Team after services.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
