Week of November 3 - November 9, 2014

“War is born of greed and foolishness. War cannot end war. For thousands of years it has been growing and increasing in size until this snowball of hate and greed resulted in the first World War, which ended in financial loss estimated at 175 billion dollars and human loss of eleven million men killed and maimed."

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

Announcements:

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held in the Chapel this Saturday, November 08. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. If you are planning to attend, please let Sudha know by emailing him at vasudhaven@yahoo.com as this will help us to organize the head count for the lunch served on the Day of Service.

• We are glad to announce that the producers of the movie AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda have arranged a week long screening in Houston from next Friday, November 14 to Thursday, November 20 at the Sundance Cinema in Downtown Houston. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the publicity of the movie and by distributing the movie flyers and posters, which can be collected from our Chapel.  If you would like more information, please contact Carlos Silva (domitilo.silva@gmail.com). We would appreciate if you could spread the word around.

• Our next meeting of the Bhagavad Gita Study Group will be held in the chapel on Sunday, November 16 after Service. This group is open to all members and friends who wish to read and meditate upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spiritual interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita – God Talks with Arjuna.

• Guruji said that “Group Meditation is a castle that protects the new spiritual aspirants as well as the veteran meditators. Meditating together increases the degree of Self-realization of each member of the group by the law of invisible vibratory exchange of group magnetism.”  Our Center hosts group meditations every Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 PM and from 7:00 to 10:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Meditations last about 45 minutes, along with a reading and chants. Devotees may enter or leave the service quietly at any time.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
