Week of August 11th - August 17th, 2014

“Repeated good or bad actions produce good or bad habits respectively, which influence one to willingly become good or evil. Yet most people do not intentionally adopt wrong habits of thought and action; they become wedded to wrong ideas because they do not know the greater charm of good habits and are unable to compare and select the best."

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

Announcements:

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held in the Chapel this Saturday, August 16. Due to the rising temperatures and the summer heat, we will plan on starting earlier around 7:30 am and ending the outside work sooner. We dedicate only one day a month to the care and upkeep of Master’s sanctuary in Houston so that it remains a magnet for those seeking to meditate together or to learn of Self-Realization Fellowship for the first time. If you are planning to attend, please let Sudha know by emailing him at vasudhaven@yahoo.com as this will help us to organize the head count for the lunch served on the Day of Service.

• Our next meeting of the Bhagavad Gita Study Group will be held in the chapel this Sunday, August 17 after Service. This group is open to all members and friends who wish to read and meditate upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spiritual interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita – God Talks with Arjuna. We hope that you are able to attend.

• The Janmashtami Commemoration service celebrating the birthday of Bhagavan Krishna will be held this Sunday August 17 beginning at 8 pm. There will be a meditation from 7:00 pm - 7:50 pm.  All devotees who are acquainted with the SRF teachings and the Guru-disciple relationship, are welcome to attend. Devotees are asked to bring a flower or flowers as a symbol of devotion to God and the SRF Gurus, and a donation, if possible, as sign of loyalty to the path of SRF. These donations are sent to the Mother Center to share these sacred teachings with other truth-seeking souls.

• We will have a General Membership meeting on Sunday, August 24 immediately after Service. The purpose of this meeting will be to provide updates and discuss plans for the upcoming fall retreat at the T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, Texas. The retreat will be held from Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 02, and will be led by SRF Monastics - Brother Naradananda and Brahmachari Gordon.

• We are continuing to accept donations for the second phase of our Audio-Visual fundraising drive in an effort to raise the remaining $3,500 by Sunday, August 31. If you would like to make a donation, please deposit your cash or check in an envelope in the chapel or you can even make a donation on-line through our website www.srfhouston.org. When making the donation, please indicate that it is for Audio-Visual equipment. If you have any questions about this fundraising drive, please contact a member of the Managing Team.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
