Week of June 30th - July 6th, 2014

"In regard to small or unimportant desires, it is better to satisfy them, because in that way we can get rid of them. But it is necessary to use wisdom and discrimination; otherwise even small desires may come back in a stronger way, reinforced by experience."

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, July 06 for our weekly Service Reading entitled “Ascending to Perfection in God". The service is from 11 am to 12 noon.  Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building. The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40 am. The Center is open to the public for services and special activities.

Weekly Affirmation:

"O mighty Ocean, I pray that the rivers of my desires, meandering through many deserts of difficulties, may merge at last in Thee.”

(Metaphysical Meditations)

• Please note that there will be no Sunday School class this Sunday, July 06.

• Our next Day of Service and Fellowship will be held in the Chapel next Saturday, July 12. Due to the rising temperatures and the summer heat, we will plan on starting earlier around 7:30 am and ending the outside work sooner. Please let Sudha (vasudhaven@yahoo.com) know if you are planning to attend, as this will help us to organize the head count for the lunch served on the Day of Service.

• We will be having a General Membership Meeting next Sunday, July 13 in the Chapel immediately following the services. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss and vote on the proposed change in the format of our Thursday evening meditations. All members are encouraged to attend.

• We are continuing to accept donations for the second phase of our Audio-Visual fundraising drive in an effort to raise the remaining $3,500 by Sunday, August 31. If you would like to make a donation, please deposit your cash or check in an envelope in the chapel or you can even make a donation on-line through our website www.srfhouston.org. When making the donation, please indicate that it is for Audio-Visual equipment. If you have any questions about this fundraising drive, please contact a member of the Managing Team.

• If you are planning to attend our Fall Silent Retreat at the T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, Texas from Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 02, please visit our website www.srfhouston.org to register for the retreat. The retreat will be led by SRF Monastics - Brother Naradananda and Brahmachari Gordon.

• Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
