Week of Apr 7th - Apr 13th, 2014

"Educational authorities deem it impossible to teach spiritual principles in public schools because they confuse them with the variety of conflicting forms of religious faiths. But if they concentrate on the universal principles of peace, love, service, tolerance, and faith that govern spiritual life, and devise practical methods of growing such seeds in the fertile soil of the child’s mind, then the imaginary difficulty is dissolved."

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, April 13 for our weekly Service Reading entitled “The Balanced Life". The service is from 11 am to 12 noon. Sunday School for children ages 3-12 is also held from 11 am to 12 noon. Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building. The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40 am. The Center is open to the public for services and special activities.

Weekly Affirmation:

"I will be calmly active, actively calm. I will meditate regularly to maintain true balance. I will perform all duties serenely, saturated with peace.”

(Metaphysical Meditations)

  • Next Friday, April 18, the chapel will be open for private meditation from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm in commemoration of Good Friday. Please note that this will be a self-guided meditation.
  • Our monthly all-day meditation retreat will be held next Saturday, April 19. This month we will have an open, 12 hour non-conducted meditation from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. You are welcome to join us at any time but we ask that you sign in when you arrive and that you enter and exit the chapel quietly.
  • Next Sunday, April 20, we will have our Easter potluck social immediately after services. The Sunday School will be hosting its traditional Easter egg hunt starting at noon. All are welcome to join us in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. A Sign-up sheet is available in the Foyer if you would like to contribute a dish for the potluck.
  • On Saturday, May 03, we will be hosting an Open House at our Houston Center from 1:00 pm onwards. This event will consist of Meditation, Devotional Chanting, Video Presentation, and Refreshments, and will be an excellent opportunity for newcomers to learn about Self Realization Fellowship and teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. We hope that you are able to spread the word.
  • As previously announced, we are organizing a fundraising drive to raise $4,500 for upgrading the Audio-Visual cabling in the Chapel. If you would like to make a donation, please deposit your cash or check in an envelope with the memo indicating that it is for Audio-Visual (AV) equipment, and place it in the basket located on the brown podium in the foyer. If you have any questions about this fundraising drive, please contact a member of the Managing Team.
  • Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
