Week of Feb 10th - Feb 16th, 2014

"As you utter prayers or affirmations, always believe that you are using your own but God-given powers to heal yourself or others. Ask His aid; but realize that you yourself, as His beloved child, are employing His gifts of will, emotion, and reason to solve all difficult problems of life.”

 - Paramahansa Yogananda

This Week's Services:

Please join us this Sunday, February 16 for our weekly Service Reading entitled “The Science of Affirmation". The service is from 11 am to 12 noon. Sunday School for children ages 3-12 is also held from 11 am to 12 noon. Parents with younger children may enjoy the service from the infant room located in the Sunday School building. The Reading Service is preceded by a meditation service from 10 to 10:45 am, and by group practice of the Self-Realization Fellowship Energization Exercises at 9:40 am.

Weekly Affirmation:

“I know that God’s power is limitless; and as I am made in His image, I too have the strength to overcome all obstacles.”

  • Our next meeting of the Bhagavad Gita Study Group will be held in the chapel this Sunday, February 16 at 12:30 pm. This group is open to all members and friends who wish to read and meditate upon Paramahansa Yogananda’s spiritual interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita – God Talks with Arjuna.
  • Our monthly all-day meditation retreat will be held next Saturday, February 22. This month we will have an open, 12 hour non-conducted meditation from 8 am to 8 pm. You are welcome to join us at any time but we ask that you sign in when you arrive and that you enter and exit the chapel quietly.
  • We would like to remind everyone to please make their checks payable to the ‘Houston Meditation Group’ when making an offering or a book room purchase. Currently, we are unable to change our bank account to reflect our new name – “Houston Center”. We will be sending out a general announcement when the official name has been changed on our bank account. When sending a payment for the mortgage, the check needs to be made payable to “Self Realization Fellowship” and in the memo written "Building Fund".
  • We are always in need of more volunteers to help in the numerous tasks required for the upkeep of our chapel and grounds. If you know of another devotee who might be interested in helping, please contact a committee leader or a member of the Managing Team.
  • Please join us this and every Sunday after the services for our weekly juice social in the Sunday School building.
